Triple Decker Clock, 1835, C & N Jerome. Mahagony cased column and cornice clock with paw feet and carved capitals on the columns. A cut-out area under the cornice contains a panel with gilded decoration on a grey ground, with a black stripe surrounding the upper portion. Wood painted dial with a lunar shaped cut-out in the center to expose the rack and snail feature. Gold painted chapter ring and spandrels in the corners. Upper and lower doors with a painted advertising panel insert between them. The advertising reads ” Eight-Day Repeating Brass Clocks, Made by C.& N. Jerome, Bristol, Ct. 1833”. Lower door with a reverse painted glass. Label inside the case states, ” Eight-Day Repeating Brass Clocks, Manufactured and Sold by C.& N. Jerome, Bristol, Conn.” 8-Day time and strike weight driven movement on a seat board. Solid rear plate, rack and snail located between the plates. Bell strike. Although the label refers to repeating clocks, there is no pull-repeat feature. It is believed that the term ”repeating” refers only to its striking reliability. The firm of C. & N Jerome operated from 1834 to 1839. During the period it purchased movements and parts from other suppliers. It is believed that the movement used in this clock was made by E. C. Brewster & Co.
