Dated to my grandfathers career as a Naval Officer nominally 1910-1930. Brass/Bronze round case bulkhead type. The screw face is nominally 5" diameter, back flange of the case is short of 6" diameter. According to Chelsea the SN returns to a Naval Observatory purchase September 1910, identified as a 6" Marine Mechanical Clock, (but the faceplate doesn't have any of the Navy markings). Chelsea says that's all they can tell me. It has an eccentric second hand and no strike capability, and the pointer type rate adjustment. Looking online at the 1953 Navy Manual I see characteristics of both 12E and 17E movements, but it pre-dates those, I believe.

The outer end of the spring was broken, and the barrel is out having a new spring placed now. Otherwise, finger pressure on what is identified as the intermediate wheel (where the spring applies power) produces movement of the second hand. It came to me with in a purpose made mantel display that might be described as an angular tambur case.

There is no reason to doubt the manufacturing year Chelsea gave you. Their serial number system was very consistent. The escapement fits the date. The newer ones have platform escapements.
