If you will post either a drawing or a picture of the mark we will try to identify it for you. Also tell us what the mark is on.....a clock, a watch....?

Best,

Richard T.

Richard,

I took some pictures but they are too bright. The mark is some type of bird with the head to one side and wings spread out. The face has MAUTHE. I have never seen this.

It is a wall clock.

Thanks Mike

Hi Mike,

The trademark is an eagle with spread wings sitting on a circle with FMS. Your clock is German and the maker is Mauthe.

Best,

Richard T.

How about this trademark guys?

Looks like the logo of Werner C. Uhrenfabrik, founded by Carl Werner. (I call it Werner C. Uhrenfabrik because that's the way I have seen it. I wonder why it is not C. Werner Uhrenfabrik.)

This trademark comes up surprisingly often.

Conveniently at e-hand therefore is this copy of an announcement from the firm, which appeared in an 1898 German clockmakers' journal, noting the change from the TM above to the two below. A most convenient dating line.

Steven -- perhaps that "Werner, Carl" (and it is the C. Werner...) comes from listings in references which have e.g. "Thomas, Seth" formats.

I wondered if something like that might be the case, but couldn't be sure. Strange things do happen horologically. Thanks, Zep.
