Just purchased this clock. I’m unsure of the maker or anything else about the clock, was hoping I could get some help. I have approval from the auction company to post the picture. Thanks!

Without seeing the movement, it could have been made by any number of makers.

    Hi,

I believe your clock was made by Hubert Herr, probably in the 1970's or so. It is, of course, in the style of the far earlier 19th century table cuckoo clocks. Have a look at the thread below, posted a few years ago about a similar example by Herr, which contains some relevant information:

Although the picture of this clock is not the clearest, I think there is a significant difference in the style of carving between this clock and the Hubert Herr. I would date this one as quite a bit older - can't guess more accurately without a better picture, but I would say at least WWII or before. The carving has so much more texture as can be seen in the leaves and birds' feather details. The only thing that looks newer to me is the hands and dial, but they could be recent replacements.

It seems like Ticktocktime100 and I are in a dueling post situation as we have been on opposites sides on another thread today. :)

It's a nice clock with a unique pose, which I always like.

On the contrary, I like nothing more than a good discussion, Tom. :) It's always very interesting and educational to hear the opinions of fellow members of the board, especially when they differ from your own. Now for a picture of the movement to reveal all...

    Regards.

Received some more pictures. Seller stated it was a Hubert Here that he valued at $1200. Not sure of that price. See pictures....

After seeing pictures of the movement and the interior of the clock, I agree with Ticktocktime 100 that the clock is of a newer vintage and the 1970s would be a good guess. I am not, however, an expert in Hubert Herr clocks and will leave it to the experts for more comments.

    Regards.

Yes, I have to agree too. I guess I was wishfully seeing more than was there in the original photos. The carving style is much more similar than I thought. I still like the design.

    Hi,

Although it wasn't a snip, it's a fair price considering a period example would cost you ten times your investment without too much trouble. The estimate the seller gave you is way off - he may have thought the clock was antique and not realised that it is actually modern, perhaps.

    Regards.

You didn't get taken to the cleaners, but a real antique clock of this style would be many multiples of what you paid for this modern clock. The quality of the carved work would be many times higher for an antique clock. On balance, an antique would probably sound a lot noisier when running.

It looks to me like a wall clock that has been attached to a base pedestal. Of course likely done at the factory, and the movement redesigned with springs.
