Welcome Astralea to the NAWCC forum This is a Mansfield Glownite Car Clock I believe(private label) Ingersol possibly but I would hope someone would confirm that. Hi Astralea, It's interesting that the radium dial was $1 cheaper than the silvered dial version back in 1922. Oh, and by the way, this doesn't appear to have any stop watch functions, it's a simple 'dollar watch' type of movement, and although the luminous compound on the hands and numbers probably isn't luminous any more, the radium is still there, and will be for a very long time. Regards, Graham
The movement is actually by New Haven Clock Co. The movement is shown in Plate 56 of Townsend's book The Watch that made the Dollar Famous. The illustration in Townsend also shows the same patent dates except for Feb. 8, 1910. Townsend erroneously shows Feb. 8, 1911. We have seen a couple of other distributors/jobbers/special makes (call them what you will) that sold New Haven watches. These were Leonard Watch Co. of Boston and the Flagg Watch Manufacturing Co. (Flagg Manufacturing Co.), also of Boston.

Does the patent date matter here? I'm curious...AND THANK YOU GUYS! THANK YOU GUYS!!! SO QUICK too!!! IMPRESSED!!! View attachment 534263
Just to add to the Mansfield name, here is a "Mansfield Wiz", rear-view mirror automobile clock. This movement is by Westclox, dated Dec. 31, 1936. Also with a radium dial. This movement was introduced in 1928 patent pending number 1563431 (illustration in Townsend's Dollar Book page 31 plate 79). The mirror was broken, lost, misplaced or something before I acquired the clock/watch, but still had the original holder. I reconstructed a mirror, using black plexiglas, to display it as it was intended. Dave
Actually, I would say this more closely resembles Townsend Plate 78. More than that, I find the patent a curious one to mention on the watch movement. Patent Images
Steven, The plate layout is more like plate 78, and the patent marking is the exact on plate 79. Can we call it plate 78-1/2 ? Dave
You guys are awesome in you knowlegde & the quickness i which you 'non-chalently' move. Thanks so very much. I love learning...and you've educated me here ni cely!!!
Not to sidetrack, but it looks like several manufacturers might have produced watches for Mansfield. Earlier posts show New Haven and Westclox, and this Mansfield Glownite pocket watch is made by Ingersoll. The movement seems to be a hybrid based on Townsend's depictions. Pictures 3 and 4 are the Mansfield Paramount as mentioned in Rob's post #2. I've never taken it apart to photograph the movement, but in the consolidated list Townsend lists Mansfield Paramount as Ingersoll and Mansfield Glownite as New Haven. Anyone else have examples?
I had an International truck with a "dollar" watch on a magnetic base , it rode on that dash for years and always worked
I had an old spliwinshield, wood bed international once...but no clock that I remb...loved that truck! Thanks
I had one of these and thought it was interesting, however not too many others shared my thoughts on it. I listed it on eBay and it sold for $3 in March ?
