• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

DSCN3467.jpg DSCN3468.jpg DSCN3473.jpg DSCN3472.jpg I just added this one to the accumulation. It was posted on Ebay as a Japy, but it doesn't have the trademark that's on others I've seen and worked on. So, is it a Japy, or who else made it, and when was it made?
Thanks,
Mark

In your photo of the back side of the movement, I see the intertwined Letters J, F and a C. The letter J leans forward, the F back. The maker was Japy Freres et Cie.

There are it seems a number of variations of that JFC mark but it appears they were all first registered in the 1880s so date wise it is most likely 1880s to 1890s. I used to own a clock with a striking version of that movement, the pendulum is a bit fiddly to get the right length but other than that it ran very well. Some refer to it as a tic tac movement which iirc Tompion invented though strictly speaking they aren't as the escapement spans more than 2 or 3 teeth.

Thanks, that's much older than I would have guessed!
