OK, I have two Seth Thomas Mantel Clocks and the black finish is nice. I've serched the forums, but most posts deal with refinish! How do I maintain the black finish? with wax or polish? Some type of cleaner?. 20220708_161821.jpg

You are asking two about different things. 'Cleaner' would remove dirt and grime, which you seem to have done (am I right?) and 'wax' would preserve and maintain what you have cleaned.

I like to use Renaissance wax on something I have cleaned. It is not cheap but a little goes a very long way and it is extremely good (museums use it). It doesn't leave a sticky surface and doesn't show, it just protects.

Others may have other thoughts.

Well I have used the Renaissance wax on two clocks and it is fantastic! The more layers you put on, the greater the mirror finish! View attachment 717325

Glad you like it - I have used it for years and like it very much. The secret is not to use too much at a time, just a very thin application each time.

Another big advantage, it doesn't melt if the jar gets warm. I didn't know this until yesterday, when we had 40 deg.,C (104 deg.F) heat and although all my other polishes melted, the Renaissance was still solid!
