I’m getting ready to replace the two mainsprings in this clock but before I order them I thought I’d check with folks to see what size is recommended and used. Comments please…..thanks.

Two mainsprings? The mainspring in the 49 just doesn't go bad - all it should need is a good cleaning and lubrication. The only reason to replace it would be if it broke, and if it did, it probably would have destroyed most of the wheels in the movement when it let go. The torsion spring will be .004".

I’ve only replaced the mainspring in one clock because a stronger one was recommended for that particular model. The mainspring in a 400 day is usually in excellent condition once removed and cleaned. Are you sure yours needs replacing?

Unless your mainspring its broken in pieces it would run the clock.

Have ran across a number of shattered springs that did not damage the clock. Would like to see a slo-mo video of just how springs shatter.

The clock is in bad condition but it does wind up. I’ll remove it and try the cleaning lube route. Thanks
