Hi,

I purchased this clock on e-Bay from an estate nearby partially because I didn't have to have it shipped. I have a friend delivering it on Sunday.

My question.... If the splat was painted, were the pillars also painted? From the picture and the description, there doesn't appear that there is any stencilling on the pillars.

Ideas?

Best regards,

Grant

The two examples in Ly's American Clocks Vol. 3 (pgs. 72 & 83) show Blacklee column and splats with stenciled columns and carved eagle claw feet.

Sometimes columns were not in fact painted, even if the splat was. Another possibility could be that they are replacement columns.

Really nice clock Grant. Does it have a wood movement?

I've been around clocks for a long time, but getting off of my backside and starting to work on my Pettibone & Mills wood works clock (thread is in the Case forum) got me to register. Sooth's restoration work on his WW clocks inspired me to finally fix it.
