    Low serial 992B.
Hello, I am new to the forum and
It is a pleasure to read and learn about watches especially pocket watches.
I have a Hamilton 992B with serial number C201. I am wanting to learn more about this watch. I certainly want to comply with forum rules so if I am out of line with my posting there is certainly no ill intent. Thank you

Hoppy777 Welcome to the NAWCC forum.

You posted in the right place. You have a very nice looking "low serial number"
Hamilton produced approx. around 1940. As you probably know
your watch would have been approved for Railroad service.
With 21 jewels and adjusted to six posisions your watch is a great time keeper.
It was also a popular watch with 685,500 made.

    Rob,

Are you referring to the grand total of 992's, i.e. 1st/2nd model, 992E, both lever and pendant set?

There were a total of abt. 525K, 992B's plus a few hundred more marked with the "4C" and "S" prefix.

    thanks for posting...
can you provide the number stamped inside the case back?

I have in my 'observations" this serial number, but no additional details from an entry January 2009.....

You are lucky, there IS a ledger page for this watch...
Finished 10/1/1940 and sold 11/5/1940 to customer # 30-68036 (we do not know how to decipher the customer code :( )

as an NAWCC member benefit many Hamilton serial numbers are searchable via this link, one must be signed in to the IMIS system to access....

You are the expert, I believed that was the number for all 992b but could be wrong.
Thanks for pointing that out. I will make a note of this in my files.

Thank you, your model 11 case serial number surely seems to 'fit', but without an original box label, we can simply call it 'correct'....as well as its dial...
You can find an enormous amount of information on our site here... via search or browzing the Hamilton 'stickies'.....
    Early shipment was yours...

Very interesting advertisement, they mention that the “ivory-plastic” case can be re-used to carry a pack of cigs! Probably one reason why not many examples survive?
I now wonder if the aluminum cases (I believe Illinois Bunn Specials) we’re also advertised to carry your smokes?
