• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

I am having trouble ID'ing these clocks.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

7. Small unbranded 'tin can' alarm clock. Bevelled glass. Note: Missing the entire alarm winding shaft, so any info about its replacement would be very helpful!

8. Gordian Hettich Sohn cuckoo clock with porcelain chapter ring, in unusual case, which looks HAC-like. Is this rare?
Note the replacement gong as the door is missing. Also missing its original finials, I don't know how it is meant to look.

9. Unbranded wall clock movement. I don't have a case for it. Brand?

10.
Unbranded German Westminster movt I need to replace. & photo of case.

11. Equity alarm clock with Westclox-style case. Hands are replacements. I believe this particular case(note the stepped profile) is incredibly rare. Missing top button. Any others like this?

Welcome to the forum.

#8 - How do you know it is a Gordian Hettich clock? The pictures, especially of the movement, are not sharp. please provide better pictures. And no, the clock is not rare.

#9 - It most likely is a German clock. It was made for export to the U.K. some time after 1926.

#11 - This clock was made after 1926 and, as stated in the Merchandise Marks Act of 1926 "in the case of goods manufactured or produced in part of His Majesty's Dominions outside the United Kingdom, the word "Empire" may be used as an indication of country of origin.

With respect to unmarked German movements, we have contributors who can identify unmarked German movements. They will be along in time after they have checked their databases.

Regards.

Why? It doesn't look unusual to me.

I see the dial is marked 'Empire Made'. This was often found on goods made in Hong Kong.

Thanks for the welcome, the #8 movement has 'GHS' stamped on the back and I have done a bit of research myself on these. It's the case style I was curious about.
Also thanks for the info!

The reason I thought it was unusual, is that I have never come across any images or mentions of this specific clock case in the few years that I've had the item.
And yes I believe it is Hong Kong too.
Thanks

Movement 10 is a typical 1930's German three train movement made for the British trade and housed inside a small floor-standing case, commonly known as 'grandmother' clocks in Britain and 'granddaughter' clocks elsewhere. It resembles a pre-war Schatz movement but the lack of signature may render it impossible to identify entirely, and it did not help that the German factories exchanged tooling which means one company's movement may strongly resemble another's. The case is British-made.

Excellent, thanks so much! I've been wanting to know more about this since I got it.

Taking a stab at the 3 train movement, my gut says it's a Kienzle movement. Could be wrong though! CCF is the expert on chiming clocks.

Grandmother and granddaughter clocks can get muddled up but are different, including in the UK, the later date from the 1930s and are smaller still than the former
