Hello,
My name's Dominique and i was asked by my father to look into the clock given to him by his father.
Now since i dont know anything about old clocks i wanted to give this forum a try.
All ive figured out at the moment is that its a grandfather clock made by LFS.
I'll include a bunch of pictures.
Numbers wise the back of the case shows the LFS logo with the number 45 B
The internals again show a plate with the LFS logo and a brass plate with the LFS logo stamped also shows the number 664.
Thank you in advance for any intel on history or possibly value allthough i doubt he'll want to sell it, its a family heirloom after all.

Welcome Dominique,

As you know, the clock was made by Lorenz Furtwängler Söhne (there was no 'and' or '&' in the name) a well known German maker who went out of business in 1935. So we know your clock cannot be younger than that.

The logo on your clock looks to be the LFS logo registered just after the first World War, so that narrows the date down a bit more. I would suppose, in the absence of any more definite information, that your clock dates from the mid-1920s.

I am not sure about the hands. I am wondering if they have been replaced. The minute hand looks too long, though that may just be the camera angle. But they may well be original.

As to value, I cannot say what a clock like this would fetch in Belgium. It's a nice clock and LFS clocks were well made and good quality but prices for clocks of this type have dropped a lot in the last few years and can be hard to sell. As it is a family heirloom, I think it should stay in the family (just my opinion!).

Further to what I wrote above, I have looked further and I see that the registration date of the LFS logo is by no means certain and could be earlier than I said. Even if it is, I still think your clock dates from mid-1920s.

The case of your clock could be seen in this catalog for 1904 on page 19, but it is lost.

Your clock is made later, such a rod gong is closer to 1910.
My opinion is that such hands have not been used since WWI.



Unfortunately, it is difficult to determine the grandfather clock LFS by the serial number, because for each caliber of movements there was its own numbering.
Maybe my colleague Nikolai Feather will help

Having looked at the hands on other LFS clocks of the period, I am now sure that yours are original. LFS seem to have favored minute hands which, to my eye, look rather too long.

i'd like to thank you all for the info.
its to bad about the missing page in the catalog because like you say my case should be on page 19 because on page 20 we do see case 46 A were mine is 45 B.
Its definetly interesting to see the history behind it.
