Greetings. I've been contacted about purchasing a possible Scudder grandfather clock coming to market in NJ. The previous owner is my favorite author and deeply respected and admired. I'm very interested in obtaining information about the timepiece, a fair price and possibly purchasing. John Scudder appears to have been a cabinet maker in Westfield, NJ. He may have had a family member, Issac Broklow, who was a master clock maker. Scudder appears to have been making clocks in NJ in the late 1700s to early 1800s. I've reached out to seller and awaiting a reply. Seller is reported to be asking $12.5k.
Can anyone provide more information about this type of clock and advice for valuation and purchasing?

i cant tell you anything about it. i do not recognize the name, but seems like mushroom cloud, crazy money for a white dial in today's market. my rule of thumb is that any buy it now price on the big auction site is probably at least 3x what the item is really worth anyway.

have you done any research on the maker? what draws you to this clock when contemporaries can be purchased for much less?

Well, the eBay seller is Steve Petrucelli who has bought and sold many fine clocks and is an expert in his field. He has never been cheap, but he knows what he is doing and knows today's market well. And we really should not be discussing this here, I think we are in violation of prime directive #1.

We would need much more info. and lots of photos. Is everything original? What movement? We can’t discuss values here.

I have removed the link to the clock at auction and all discussion of value for that clock. Only the discussion of completed items is permitted.
