Hi Guys

I bought a wonderful Mantle Clock with Westminster chime, it works great, and very happy, it appears from what I can see to be quite clean and was bushed before me

The issue I am having is that the nut that holds the hands on is missing, and I have attempted to purchase, but Perrins cant supply as they don't stock English movements

I am not 100 percent its English, its the only info I could find on line, but cant find any size or nut etc, the only thing I can tell the forum is that the name "Davall" is inscribed on the pendulum.

Any help Guys would be appreciated

TG,

Small alarm clocks and travel alarms are a good source of small nuts. You can buy assortments from the usual clock supply houses. Look closely in the case, it may be hiding in there somewhere.

Good luck, Willie X

HI General,

A couple of things might help identify exactly what you have. First can you measure the diameter of the threaded part of the arbor. both metric and English numbers would help but either one is a start. Second, can you post some pictures of the clock and the movement. Maybe someone could identify exactly who the clockmaker is. I think with that info, somebody should be able to set you in the rights direction.

Well if the movement is British then the thread is probably BA, measure the thread and let us know the size

Hi

Davall's were a British clock maker back in the 1930/40/50s so the threads are likely to be BA and at a measurement of .108" it looks to be 6BA, if you can't find or make a nut PM me your address and I will post (mail) one to you.

Davall were a gear and gear box manufacturer that branched into clocks

Sorry guys, I converted the MM to Inch as wasnt sure who used what. I stopped at a local shop and we got a nut to go on. They had not seen a movement like that, and I must say upon further review its a large movement for the size of clock, and appears to be well built

Thx always for your help, I have another project coming in next week that I am sure I will need assistance with, but still learning lots as I go.

Thx for the offer to send, very much appreciated, are the Davall clocks rare now, or did they produce mass amounts??

Sure would like to see some pictures of your clock General. Glad you found a nut for it.
