I have a Longines quartz with a single screw on the back and would like to change the battery. In the past I had a watch that used air to pop the crystal off, but am unable to find anything about this particular watch. Any help would be great, thank you.

I can't tell if there's a seam around the back for removal. The screw is interesting. Have you removed it to see what lies beneath? I.E., perhaps a depression to fit a prying tool? I may just be extra protection, or a way to give it a little added tightening due to soft material. I looks like there's a hallmark on the back that might indicate solid gold. True?

Maybe roughbarked will post on this one. He has a lot of experience with such vintage watches. Good luck.

Mainly trying to identify the odd marking on the second line as then I would be able to search for the year. The case is solid, checked under the band and all. The line is likely from my camera not being the best and lighting.

What are the numbers on the bottom of the dial, if they are numbers I can see but not read?
Have you taken the screw out yet?
the numbers from what i can tell say "362 SWISS 6521"
I have taken the screw out and there was nothing underneath. I have had old longines where air is applied to remove the crystal but dont want to do guess work on this one.

I don't see that watch as one having to have the crystal blown and the movement come out from the front. After all, it's a quartz movement that will need to have the cell replaced more often than mechanical watch would need a mainspring replaced, etc. Since you have it your hands, you are the best judge as to if there's a seam visible, etc. We can tell nothing from the images. That said, it does look like there are some pry marks at the upper right corner on the back. If that wasn't from you, and depending on if it was a successful removal of the back, then it might point you in the right direction. But again, we can't see it from here.

You might try posting the question on the watchrepairtalk.com site. There are a lot of folks there who are experienced in such watches. Good luck.

Often enough, under the screw is a place to press the set lever pin and release the stem but that screw is in an odd place.

Yes, it is very odd to my relatively untrained eye as well.

That's interesting about a stem-release location under a screw.

And what about that symbol the precedes the second row of numbers? It looks Russian to me.

Good to hear that you worked out the split stem and air.
Now with Longines they often have a sliding ring that needs to be turned a little. Photos of the gasket set up will help us have ideas. Many shaped Longines had a gasket that also had the winding stem go through it.

Cool, I'm glad you got the crystal out, and it sounds like you're getting close to getting the battery replaced. Congrat's.

What I'd like to know is how one would go about fitting that crystal back into the case? While I may (Not certain.) have seen that certain claw tools will work with a rectangular crystal, I have never done one, or seen it done. Hopefully it's easier than it seems it might be. I guess it depends on the tool availability, etc. Cheers.
