Good morning everyone,
I found this clock in a desk belonging to my family.
I managed to get the following information:
Lepine type III movement
The engraver appears to be Jaquemet (1835)
The case appears to be gold although it is not specified
On the case back there is a punch with the initials EG or LG but I can't understand what it refers to.
I hope someone can give me more precise information.
Thanks and kind regards
Carlo

Hi there, Carlo!
The engraver appears to be Jaquemet (1835)
That will be the retailing house, if not the finisher/maker. A quick Google book search shows him in the 1820s. You’ll likely find more

I’d love to see a closer up pic of the stamp/hallmarks.

Louis Jaquemet it was located from 1821 to 1831 at 21 of the Croix d'Or, then in 1835 at Seujet 207. During the 1830s it was succeeded by the watchmaker Gambini, still in Geneve.

Thanks Superfalco. Louis Jaquemet is sometimes alternatively spelled “Jacquemet.” The (?)G stamp may indicate the case maker. The only G last name gold worker I know of at this time in Geneva was Dominique Giel (Giel-Latour). The first letter is illegible to me, but I cannot fit it to a “D”.

You should also look closely at other random marks. If gold, there are/were gold hallmarks, from the cantonal control (esp if Geneva made) and/or other country import. These circled marks below may be remnants. There may be others close to/on the caseback edge, case edge, and pendant. Some marks can be very small & difficult to read (to my eyes at least) except under 20x magnification.

Good morning,
Thank you very much for your availability.
I was able to highlight the indicated points better, but they are not punches with a digital microscope
I have attached another photo of the stamp next to the letter G, it seems to be stamped with the letter E twice.
I have carefully checked other parts, but have not found the gold hallmark.
I took courage and tried with the touchstone and nitric acid and it turns out to be gold, but I don't know if 18 or 22 k
Kind regards
Carlo

Enrico - do you think the mark could be the retailer in Germany - despite the missing '.' s rather than the case maker?

I have not found any news about Eugene Gauss, I find him in a list of medal manufactures before WWII. But EG could be E. Gambini successor of Louis Jaquemet. Perhaps Gambini continued with the Jaquemet name. Like Gallopin kept the Henri Capt brand or Nicolet with the Stauffer brand in the U.K.

Building on eric the bully , I think Eugène (aka Eugen) Gambini is the likely answer. Interesting guy, was for 20 years the Geneva consul to Italy. Died April 9, 1888 at age 81.
