• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Hi, Being sold on your side of the water , this clock, it has a count wheel, but the only other mark on the rear plate is a large 2Q below that the serial number, I did email this seller but have had no reply, to ask if it was in fact a Lenzkirch movement, what do you think.

HI Binman,

The "2Q"could in fact be an indication of a Lenzkirch movement. That being said, tread lightly. All of the 2Q movements I have seen have a lower S/N than what you would expect, based on production year and also have the Lenzkirch logo. Really tough to guess on this one. Not much to go on.

Good Luck,
Walt

Thanks Walt. I'm just curious, the s/n 44308 is low, gives a date of 1852/53.

You can't equate the "2Q" serial numbers to the normal dating sequence. I don't have the book in front of me right now but it seems the 2Q dates first appeared around 1890 or so. There is also some debate as to what the significance of the 2Q is. As Albra has rightly said, there is just so much we don't know.

If you do get it, please post some pictures.

I have submitted an article to the Bulletin about dating the 2Q movements. It brings out information that is not widely known and will help everyone know where these clocks fit into the Lenzkirch serial number series.

2Q movements should have the 2nd Lenzkirch trademark on the movement.

These clocks were made after Lenzkirch started using their second trademark which is the pine cone and Lenzkirch (see my icon above LenzkirchFan). I have pictures of some 2Q movements without the trademark but they are less common.

My article has not been published yet but it has been reviewed so hopefully, it will be published one of these days. I gather pictures of Lenzkirch movements and clocks and file them by serial number. Right now, I have over 3,000 serial numbered movements documented and I have been able to learn a lot by doing this.

Cheers, Steve

Few months ago I've seen on the net auction the Lenzkirch movement signed 2 Qte, with the SN 277736. This was the only 2Q weight driven and with the classical SN movement I've ever seen.

Hi have only seen two of these single weight movements with the 2.Qte. The serial numbers are close to each other. I may have more information shortly on this stamp. These are the only weight driven movements that I have seen with the 2.Q.

My article on the 2.Q stamp is in the recently publish Bulletin for September/October.

Here is a little more information on this movement. If you enlarge the picture, you will see that the serial number is 277756. I have pictures of this movement and also of movement number 277754 which is exactly like it. It is thought that these were made for the French market and the TÈ is an abbreviation for the French word qualitè. These are the only weight driven movements that I have found with the 2.Q mark. I'm betting that serial number 277755 is the same!
