• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Hi folks,
Looking for a little help again! I have just begun using a watchmakers lathe which I picked up about 3 years ago. So far have made only simple clock component (arbors for example) but LOVE the hobby! I am looking for some accessories for the lathe which is an old (ca. 1890) Rivett watchmakers lathe. I am looking specifically for accessories which would mount to the tailstock and allow me to polish pivots more quickly. I have searched the web but so far with no luck. By the way, it is an 8WW lathe. I could make some accessories but I can't tell if the tailstock runner has a morse taper or not, it certainly isn't threaded.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Bob

There are a number of clock pivot polishing accessories that are made. The best one is Swiss, distributed by Bergeon ( http://www.ofrei.com/page272.html , down near the bottom), it'll cost you. It also requires a collet-holding tailstock.

Another option is one that I've seen at most of the large regional and national shows ( http://www.MorganPivotPolisher.com/ ). I've never heard any feedback about the utility of this one, but it's about half the price, and it looks like it will clamp onto a standard tail.

Before commenting on the Morgan Pivot Polisher, I want to disclose that I am also a seller of the unit. My comments are not intended to solicit business on this Forum.

As a user, I really like the unit, its very very fast, gives consistent high quality, and since I like my pivots burnished to a very smooth and hard surface, which was taking me a long time by hand on my lathe, this is a big time saver. IMHO polishing pivots is the most important step in getting a clock to run a real long time. Good Luck.
