• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Maybe I am at the wrong place if so I apologise before hand. I need some help in identifying the mechanism that holds the suspension unit to the balance weights/pendulum for a Kundo Midget 58. I would love to get hold of a drawing or whatever so that I can manufacture one for this clock. I am sorry if this message is duplicated elsewhere as I really don't know my way around these BBs

Hi Celticprince!
The "Book"says that Kundo Midget 58 needs a unit 5F with a SS .0022"
resp. .056 mm.You`ll find the telephone number of Bill Ellison of the Horolovar Company somewhere in this message board to order one.
We allways are interested in pictures!?

I see you are in South Africa and I guess parts are not so easy to obtain out there. Rasch mentioned a complete suspension unit with blocks, which will probably be the quickest route to reparing your clock. A UK supplier might be easier than from the US. The follwing link will take you to a UK supplier, Meadows & Passmore. Their catalogue is downloadable on line, but to save you time here is their catalogue no. for this part 0679 000506, price in GB pounds £7.24 + VAT & carriage.

Andy, you are in the right place. The other responses here have concluded you are looking for a suspension unit for your clock. However it appears to me you may actually be looking for the assembly at the top of the pendulum where the lower suspension block is held, and not the suspension spring unit. Is that what you need? The Kundo midget pendulums (look at No. 69 and 70 on page 198 in the Repair Guide) have a spring-loaded arrangement that keeps the suspension spring under a light tension when the pendulum is raised into the lock position. This was supposedly to provide a kind of shock absorber action to help avoid spring breakage.

Let us know which is the right one and we can go from there. A photograph would be very helpful.

Hi John

You are correct in what you say. it is the "goodie" that holds the pin of the bottom block I need to get/make. To get hold of a Horolovar book in South Africa is pretty difficult that is why I am trying to get a pic online somewhere.

Thanks

Andy,

I just happened to have Kundo, Plate #1406H on my bench. Here are some pictures of the pendulum, suspension unit and the parts that make up the lower connection for the lower block. As can be seen in the picture the lower block has a hole instead of the pin as found on most lower blocks.

If I haven't answered your question let me know what other pictures you need.

Joe

Joe,

Thanks for the info much appreciated. The 5F suspension unit that I got from Meadows & Passmore UK has got a pin in it. I am stupid when it comes to the 400 day. The pin in the unit is very tight in the block and I don't want to force it out. Is there anything else missing and how does the unit fit onto the pendulum. I have a Schatz and it is different.
Once again thanks a million for your help. :thumb:

Andy,

The pin currently in the bottom block is only pressed into only one half of the block. You need to remove the pin and retain it for future use. After removing the pin you need to increase the size of the hole to match the size of the one in the other half of the block. This will allow the pin to be free floating.

Now is the tricky part. With the bottom block inserted into the pendulum raise the lower washer, the cupped one, and using tweezers or long nosed pliers insert the previously removed pin through the block. The cupped washer retains the pin when it is released.

Try this and get back to me if you still have problems.

Regards,

Joe

If you happen to break/ruin/lose the pin, you can improvise with a piece from a push pin. It's not a critical part (in the sense that anything that holds will work).

Hi all,
Thanks for all the help. You lot are the best. Some pics attached of the pendulum. Now I see that there is nothing missing after Joe sent me the pics. It is slightly different from Joe's pics but same principle. Once again thanks to everyone.:thumb:
