Junghans Grandfather

I have a Junghans clock that I can't seem to find any information on, instead of having a typical J inside the star of the trademark, it has an I. It also says B19 and 60. Did Junghans make very many of these clocks? When were they made, and why the I instead of J? Sorry it is in pieces right now, I still have to fix the cabinet before putting it together. It has nice old wavy glass in the door. The other thing I think is a little odd is that this is over 7' tall, but it has a spiral gong, why is this? Thanks for any information.

I believe your clock was made in the second half of 1919, based on the B19 mark.

The "I" within the Junghans trademark was registered in 1917 (see below link), so that fits nicely with the 1919 date.

I believe that the reason for the "I" was discussed on these boards over 10 years ago, but I can not yet find the discussion. In the alternative, the discussion may have taken place in either the NAWCC bulletins or Clocks magazine.

that will help me, thanks! I thought the dial looked around 1920, so that sounds right. Hope someone has information on the reason for the I. Also, would like to know more about the history of Junhans Grandfather clocks, I can't seem to find any that look like this. The back of the cabinet is stamped with the star and an I in the middle.
