Hi, I have recently inherited this clock which has been in the family for many years. It has never worked as far as I can remember. I took it to a clock shop where it was repaired and polished up and is running fine. I was told it was a Junghans, however, it has none of the distinguishing marks of a Junghans. The clock repair guy could not help me in its positive identification and said there were no "marks" on the inside but said he didn't really look for any either. The only marks I can see are the two arrows on the back plate and the number 214 on the "strike plate" off to the bottom left. I paid $800 to get this clock repaired and would really like to know if it is genuine or a knockoff. Hoping somebody can help. Thank You.

Welcome to the forum.

I do not believe it is a Junghans movement. Perhaps others can confirm or correct. We have folks who can identify unmarked German movements and perhaps they can assist.

would really like to know if it is genuine or a knockoff.

I do not know how you define 'knockoff', but the clock is genuine.

It was common practice in the German clock industry to provide unmarked movements to the trade - wholesalers, retailers, cabinet makers, jewelers, etc. - and as such, clocks, such as your clock, that fall into this category are all original and legitimate.

Regards.

It's a very nice clock. The case and dial are in great shape. Particularly like the hands. Even if not by Junghans, the movement looks to be a well made, most likely from one of the major German clock companies. That particular wide hook and leader with the collars at the bottom I have seen before, but can't put a name to it. Definitely not a knockoff. Someone will most like recognize it, but it may take awhile for the right person to see the post.
