• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Hi everyone
I am working on a Junghans clock that the click wheel on time train had lifted and allowed the click to go under it.
Was there a spacer originally to prevent this from happening?
My plan is to make a brass thick washer to prevent this from happening again.
Clock has been worked on by others in the past
Chime side needs one also.
Chime train had lots of problems spring barrel had a bad tooth replacement, C2 had bent teeth, C3 had bent pinions.
Strike side had a spring arbor hook broken off

Dan, I’ve worked on several of these and I think you are right about the spacer. I don’t remember exactly what it looks like. Others may have one and can post a photo of the spacer.

Hi WOW
Thanks for the reply.
After 2 cleanings on chime side you can slightly see discoloration where there may have been one.
Thanks
Dan

Yes, there are spacers.

If you need measurements, I’ll get it out. It’s a loose movement packed away in a box.

That looks good. I don't know if your movement is exactly the same as mine, but there is a rim or a small spacer on the intermediate wheel of the time train as well as on the main arbors.

That's a lovely case you have with the viewing glass. These movements seem to have consistent trouble on the chime train. But, I guess after nearly 100 years, I should expect trouble somewhere. On two of mine, the C2 had broken leaves. Fortunately, the S2 is identical, so was able to get one good movement out of two. Once running, it is a great movement, and I particularly love how it looks. Hope yours is back together soon.

One of the wheels on this movement has ratchet teeth which look typical. The other wheel's teeth more closely resemble those of a conventional wheel, and the click's tooth form doesn't seem to match. Unusual in my admittedly limited experience.

Bill, I’ve worked on several of these and they all are made that way. I’ve wondered why on every one.

Me too. But it works. This one has me scratching my head as well. It’s a GB, but the same type of assisted ratcheting system. The teeth are all angled, yet I can’t believe if this was from a catastrophic failure, that they would all be bent so uniformly, with none broken or marred. It works just fine, too.

Thanks for all the replies
It is a nice case, wish it was mine but it is a customers.
I only noticed it needed spacers as time click was under click wheel and was unable to wind,
I think chime train issues were caused by same issue.
It shows evidence of at least 2 different people working on it.
Have it back together and running outside of case,
Thanks again
Dan
