JUF Lunar Louvre

This is my latest purchase. The movement is marked "SOKOL MONTAG & Co. GERMANY" in a circular stamp centered around the winding arbor. No pendulum but the seller said he would look for it in the pile of stuff he got with it at an estate sale. Fingers crossed!



I haven't recorded many lunar clocks. I've only seen one other of this style with roses around the dial. Note also the case has only 4 columns where there normally are 5.

Hope it travels well.

Has anyone else seen one like this?

Nice buy Eric. I had my eye on it, too, but figured that with the trouble and expensive of finding the pendulum(2 ball, probably?) I would just let it go. Knowing you, you probably have the pendulum. I did not even catch the difference in the number of columns. I have the similar model with the face without the fancy surround. It went to a good home!

I don't think I've ever seen a loose 2 ball pendulum for sale. I'm sure I would have grabbed it if I did. If all else fails I'll just make one. I have one I can copy. The dome might be a problem.

Sounds like you may have domes but not necessarily the right one?
What are are required measurements?

Not sure, but I'd guess 5 1/2" by 15". I'll measure once it gets here.

I was fortunate enough to find a dome in an antique store that almost fit for the one I have that is similar, but not as nice as your recent purchase. I only paid $9, so the almost fit was fine by me. It is just shy of 6 in. wide and 14 in. tall, so 5.5 in wide does sound correct.

I just found another example of this clock. Lot 61 in Terwilliger's 22nd Silent Auction. The description for the clock says the dome should be 5 1/4" by 14". Not a common size.

So now the hunt begins. After seeing your great work on replacing parts, I look forward to seeing the finished pendulum!

Well it arrived today in good condition. It definitely takes a 5 1/4" x 14" dome so that will never happen. The seller couldn't find the pendulum either. It had a suspension spring attached and I added the bottom block. I don't know if the spring is the right size or not. It's completely wound but has no power and won't run.

Aside from having only 4 columns and the ornate bezel, it also differs from the other JUF louvre models I've seen in how the movement drum is mounted. This one has a single screw in the top center of the drum that runs up to the top finial. The movement drum is all brass with no seams, and the top dome and rim is also a single brass piece. The only visible part of the case that is not brass is the underside of the top dome which is brass plated steel.

Now the search for the pendulum begins.

Here is another picture of the clock with the pendulum from my other lunar just to see it complete.

sold one of those pendulums on ebay about 6 months ago i know thats not what you want to hear but i got it in a box of 400 bit so shows they are out there

I finally found the correct pendulum to finish this clock, but I had to buy this Huber lunar to get it.

I got into a bidding war on ebay for a damaged loose pendulum earlier this month. It went for about $200 shipped. I paid a bit more to get this pendulum but it's in great shape. Wish I could say the same for the base of the clock. I think I'll be passing this one along.

Glass and everything! Nice. I'll probably never find a dome for mine.

Are there any markings on the back plate?
