Hey, Friends. So like a Dummy, I accidentally broke off and lost my Seconds hand on my beautiful John Forrest pocket watch; and rather than, go to some watch repair place here in GA and have them replace it with something more modern and something that doesn't match the rest of the watch, I thought I'd ask if anyone has parts to a John Forrest pocket watch For Sale and/or where I could get parts for my pocket watch. I'd rather the parts be authentic to an original John Forrest than some modern-day part.

Thanks for letting me know. You guys/gals are the Best!

Always,

Evie

Hi Eve,
I'd rather the parts be authentic to an original John Forrest than some modern-day part.

The original would have been a generic part, bought in by whoever made this watch, so if you're looking for an 'original' Forrest hand, there's no way of identifying it as such and I believe you'll be disappointed. There are still assortments of these hands of the appropriate vintage on sale from time to time. The hand needs to be the right length to fit the dial, and its pipe needs to fit over the arbor so that it's snug but not too tight.

I wonder if the lost hand could be caught in the pile of your carpet?

Regards,

Graham

I guess I didn't necessarily mean an original per se. Rather like you said, an appropriate vintage hand. I did as suggested and used a magnet on the carpet to no avail. Any idea where I should start looking for the appropriate part maybe? And how would I know the appropriate size without just looking at it and guessing? lol.

Thanks for your help. I truly appreciate it. I'm so bummed about losing it.

Hi Eve,

Without taking the dial off and measuring the diameter of the arbor, it's really down to buying an assortment of old hands and trying them on there. The other important dimension is the length of the hand, it should just reach to the edge of the sunken part, which you can probably measure near enough with a metal ruler calibrated in mm.

Regards,

Graham
