In revisiting Russ's CD and the "blue book" today, it looks like the grade 64 17J OF model 6 replaced the grade 64 17J OF model 3 in 1895 - and then another 15K or so of these were made in model 6.

I question the numbers on the grade 103, as my experience is that there are far more 17J examples out there than 16J. I've found quite a few that were supposedly from a 16J run that were really 17J. My data might be skewed because of my focus on private labels. Perhaps there was a tendency to add that extra jewel on a private label even though the run was a 16J run. Anyone else have thoughts on this? I would be especially interested in hearing of observations for factory marked movements to see if they are the same as my observations on private label 103's.

Mike, I like them all! My favorite answer to the question, "what interests you most?" is, "I like PL's, and non-PL's" ... :)

My three jeweled 5th pinion model 3 gr 103's have (presumably) PL markings, as follows:
210432 is a 17J model 3, marked Governor Adjusted Patent Pinion [checked] - the SN is supposed to be from a 15J model 2 gr 103 KW run, and it shows signs of being reworked - possibly by the factory, or by someone else, or both.
211247 is a 17J model 3, marked Central Park Patent Pinion [not checked]
211524 is a 16J model 3, marked Governor Boston Patent Pinion [not checked]

Your 211524 is from a run designated as mixed 16 and 17 jewel. I have 211555 (marked 'Regulator') that is verified 17J.

The run before this one is designated as mixed model 2 15 jewel and model 3 16 jewel. I have 211491 (marked 'Governor') that is verified 17J.

One of these days I will have to map my examples out. Maybe we can identify some sub-runs.

HI Dave, I've passed many anomalies I've observed to Russ Snyder. IMO - his database is the most useful, by far, and hopefully further new observations will help make his next release of the database even better yet!
