Hi - Couple of questions for my fellow listers...As part of a recent auction lot, I'm now in possession of a pocket watch from the Swiss maker, James Nardin with "No 8590" inscribed on one of its finger bridges. For those who are familiar with this maker, is it correct to interpret this as a serial number?
Also, it is a 21 ligne size pocket watch without its case. Presumably, its case was lost to the smelters and melters at some point in its life. I'm more versed in American pocket watches, not so much with Swiss so I am needing guidance regards locating a case of the correct size. It's a pretty, higher quality watch. Add to this, all parts appear to be in good order, other than a good cleaning and perhaps a mainspring. All together, it motivates me to restore and find a suitable case.
Questions:
Were cases for Swiss pocket watches unique to the movement such that obtaining a case is impossible? or was there some Swiss standard system similar to the American PW and, if so, what was it? What do I need to look for to match these up?
Also, any other suggestions other than the usual marts and Ebay to search? Can you refer me to member(s) who specialize with Swiss watches/cases.
Thx much
