Here are a couple of pictures of a clock that was found at auction a few years ago. It was mostly forgotten until yesterday when it was taken off the shelf, and it started running right away. Anyway, it appears to be similar to plate 1260, except the company name surrounds the second arbor rather than the first, and the two elephants are farther to the right.

Very nice...I like the embellishments on the ends of the columns. The use of the double elephants and circular logo was during the period 1923-1927. August Schatz died in 1927, so they dropped the circular logo. Usually the circular logo is around the first arbor hoe. I wonder if the double elephants was stamped first, too far over, not leaving room for the other logo, so they moved it up.

Kurt,
Thanks for your comments about the clock. You could be right about the placement of the elephants and logo.

I haven't seen a picture of a plate 1260 like the one shown in the guide, and with the suspension guard in place. But I wonder if the factory just moved the markings at some later date, because the suspension guard would partially cover them otherwise.

I don't think the placement of these markings was anything more than "in the area". When found alone, the circle stamp is either centered on the arbor or in the clear area to the right. When found with the elephant stamp, the circle stamp is usually centered on the first arbor but the elephants wonder across the bottom edge of the plate. When found alone the elephants wander.

I don't have any other example in my records with the circle stamp around the second wheel arbor. This one is probably an error by whomever placed the stamp.
