From the volumes 1 to 6 of the book series by Jürgen Ermert, I bought volume 3, because it describes the German precision pendulum clocks from 1730 to 1940, with a very comprehensive part about Strasser & Rohde. Jürgen Ermert has self-published these books.
After receiving the book and first view am just overwhelmed. Not only has an extremely extensive picture material been collected, but the detailed texts are also very informative. In addition, there is an extraordinary quality in the presentation, which distinguishes the book (and certainly the other volumes) and goes far beyond "normal" books of larger publishers.
I can only warmly recommend this book (and certainly the other volumes) to all people interested in precision pendulum clocks. The books are not "cheap" from the point of view of less bibliophiles, but every cent spent is imho worth many euros. Currently all volumes are still available. A second edition will probably not be published and this makes these books consequently extremely collectible. This is the absolute standard and will presumable remain the benchmark of horological publishing for very long, if not all times.
For translation from German www.deepl.com is recommended, it is a lot better than other on-line translations and in particular useful for texts with technical terms. The English text, above, was translated therewith and without any amendment.
Cheers, Bernhard
