• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Ithaca Parlor Calender 3 1/2

Trying to ID one of these. In Trans' book "Calander Clocks" pages 132-135 shows the clock as the later version. The only difference I can see on the one I am looking at is 1/2 columns on a 45 degree angle, not a full columns as shown in the book. I can't find it in any of my other books. Also has anyone seen one of these sold recently?

I think there were three different models each with slight variations. "American Shelf and Wall Clocks" by Ball 2nd edition lists at least three examples. They all seem to be the same as far as the columns go. I will check some past auction catalogs later this evening. I seem to think there was something about the backboard being in one piece or two pieces.

Can you post pic's of the clock? All the 3 1/2 parlors have full columns. Now there was a model that was made that used the basic 3 1/2 case but had a series of balls on the top instead of the carving. That one might have had the 1/2 columns. If so somebody took the balls off and put the top carving on it to look like a 3 1/2 parlor. Do you see any other holes on the top of the case?

Chris, I have not had my camera long enough to learn how to transfer pic's. I did remove the top carving and there is no indication that anything has been altered. Thanks for your help.

Richard, Thanks for the info. I'll see if any of my friends have that book.

Hello Keywind,

There are many subtle differences - 1 vs. 2 piece backboards, decorative trim on sides had different designs, stenciling on glass changed, and there are probably more. Unfortunately many of these clocks have undergone restorations, so it is often difficult to tell.

Tran Duy Ly publishes a book on Calendar Clocks, and there is a section of Ithaca 3 1/2 clocks. Maybe some member can Xerox that section for you, or you can borrow the book and compare vs. your clock...

I saw a couple of these sold on eBay recently. I don't know the exact prices, but I believe they ranged somewhere between $3500 and $5000. But I could be mistaken, since I see so many different clocks at different prices and I really don't know their true values.

I believe there may even be one still for sale on eBay with 1 or 2 days remaining in the auction. They're nice looking clocks and the examples that were selling on eBay looked very, very outstanding, but way out of my price range.

All the 3 1/2 parlors have full columns.
Not according to Miller's book on calendar clocks. Regarding the 3 1/2, they state a third model was issued around 1900, that had 1/2 columns on blocks cut at a 45o angle.

Cheers, Ralph
