My health would not let me enjoy attending NAWCC functions anymore.

So, I will set here in front of this Monitor trying to improve Public Education concerning Horology.

Thank you for the nice letter and consideration.

    Sam

I'm not sure who you're replying to Sam, but I'm glad you're spending time in front of the monitor! :)

I assume he got an invitation to join in the mail. BillS got one a couple days ago, too.

Everyone who registers for the Message Board and gives their address to receive information about the NAWCC gets a response from HQ. If they do not furnish their address, they do not, of course, receive the mail.

But, Sam is not a new member. So, that doesn't address why he received the invitation.

Because I made a private donation.

It was still a nice letter and I appreciate the thought.

BillS was a new registration. I was not sure what Sam had done. Thanks for the gift Sam.

We have sent notes to 1,343 new registrants, who asked for information, since mid August when that program began.

Wouldn't it make sense that if someone signed up electronically, they be given electronic versions in an introductory email similar to the eHappenings ?
This would save the NAWCC on both printing and postage.

They could always 'opt-in' to a print version as well.

Jake - That is too easy. It would have only saved them $600 by doing it that way.

New members are already sent (in addition to their mailed membership packet) an electronic welcome newsletter entitled "Winding Up."

The mail invitations being referenced here were sent as part of the current Membership Marketing initiative program authorized by the BOD, part of which involves engaging a marketing firm to contact various national and international lists of prospective members and those interested in horology and collecting.

One of the sub-lists that was mailed consists of non-NAWCC member message board users. Sam most probably received one of those.

Everyone who registers here gets the email welcome. The note in the registration sequence offers to send them more information if they furnish their physical mail address. The staff decide exactly what to send to them. Only about 1 in 5 give their mail address. Our non-profit postage rate is very low for everyone in the U.S. Folks registering from Uzbekistan do require a bit more postage. We have been doing this small recruitment activity since August 15th so it is a bit early to assess the results. Hopefully, it will be swamped by the response to the professional recruitment campaign Markus described above and we will never know the results.

I'm surprised 20% of the people fill that in, and wonder how many actually read the instructions in this fast paced world.
When I registered I couldn't figure out why my address was needed since NAWCC already has it... then saw the bolded note about saving money.

I do hope we can acquire more new members whether they participate in the MB or not.
My concern is keeping the cost down, and think registration here would be a good vehicle.
Sending the same information, or a link to it, electronically after registration might do just that.
We are far more likely to get new blood into the organization that way in my opinion.

I don't recall what was in the "Winding Up" email, but the eHappenings is frankly ginormous and cluttered with a mountain of tiny print.
A few blurbs and links to an online version instead of shoe horning a print version into an email would make it more readable.
My vision is deteriorating and I prefer to read in a web browser where I can enlarge text.

It's also possible I've succumb to what people call the TL/DR syndrome due to the volume of emails I receive.

I may be incorrect. Sounds like Sam received a Thank You letter for his donation, and the other one was apparently an email mix up.

The mailing campaign may not have already gotten to the non-NAWCC MB users yet.

My address is not listed on the NAWCC MB. I am a little old fashion and think snail mail is still Nice to receive.
