    That is one impressive dial.

    Why the "thumbs down," Jon?

beats me why the TD--some type of error on my part.

Ths dial is even better in person and one of my favorites--I acquired this one in the mid 60s from old timer Geo. Kelsch from Orange, Ca. (He is now oin hos mid 90s). He was well known for always speaking about "patina" on silver cases and we all used to roll on the floor in laughter (Wilbur Dexter, Art Z, Russ and George Jefferson and myself).

    Another very classy dial.

Incidently what about "patina" on silver cases ?

    Is this good or bad?

    Henry G,

I guess it all depends if you like that NEW and shiney look--I prefer them to age naturally but I also gently wip them off with a terry cloth rag if one of my friends happens to handle them incorrectly!

These idiots that buff this stuff ruin them as metal and sharpness is lost!

    Hi Tom,

I am not sure what you mean here--one is a semi colored dial that is quadruple sunk and on a unique, special peice; the other is also unique but a standard 18s dial with an incredible ink drawing. One is larger and one is smaller; bothe superb conditionwise. One is an Elgin, the other a Waltham!

Is this the answer you want ;)......................being a Waltham man.................

No such thing as an *ordinary* 15j Elgin KW - at least, not with that dial attached to it!

Rob, you can see other spectacular dials from this collection at the following:

    Gallery Images

These all belong to Jon Hanson, who was unduly kicked off the board (almost a decade ago) due to a personal, unrelated rift.

Hopefully his request to be reinstated will be granted one day.

I love "Fancy" dials, but I have found that to get one without cracks or hairlines is virtually impossible. The ones I do find in excellent condition bring Premium prices, as well they should. I wish I were able to afford some of the ones I have seen in the past.
The Dial posted here by the OP is absolutely Stunning.

What a great dial! Am I recalling correctly that the 1873 Exposition was also featured on an Elgin medal/token?

I'm pretty sure you're right Pat. If I remember right there were a few varieties too but I couldn't find my tokens/medals book quickly. Worse, I think I have one of the medals but it will.take time to locate. Must organize! -Cort
