Hi Guru,

First of all, I want to say hi to everyone here since I'm a new comer for this board.
I'm a beginner who just interested in clock mechanism. A lot of questions in my mind. Hope you guys don't mind to see my other questions consequently. :)

For this question, if it was asked and answered here before, I'm very sorry since I can't find it.

Recently, I got regular cuckoo clock, 1 day, from estate sale. It came with 2 weights, 320 and 420 gram.
Everything works fine. I just wonder about the correct weight that I should use for 1 day cuckoo clock.
I realized that the more weight, the faster cuckoo sound.
Does heavier weight effect the precision of movement?.
How do I know if that weights are corrected?.

Thanks,
kmmm.

It is unusual for a clock to originally come with two
different weights.
Not knowing what movement or other features your clock
has, I'd say someone has added weight to extend the
life, before replacement or repairs of the movement.
Most Regula 25's in good shape will run on a 275 weight.
320 is not that unusual to be found on these clocks. I don't
know if that is original or not.
420 is on the large size.
Please read the post "Miracle Oil ...?" for my opinion on
"if it works why fix it".
To answer one of your questions, a recoil escapement will
run noticeably faster with a heavier weight. Still, it can usually
be regulated with the pendulum to keep reasonable time,
for a cuckoo clock( possibly even slightly better regulation
than with the lighter weight ). It will wear the movement faster.
