Over the past decade I sold off all my clocks except one which had an unusual glass shape which I removed from the old farm years ago. I decided to spruce it up some to give to a newlywed couple we are fond of. I find it very unusual, not the movement, but the curved glass in it. The case is pristine and this movement, marked Ingraham, with the nickel bell chime, clearly came from this case. The key with it was marked KROBER. I thought I would have no trouble using Google Images to pull up a few like it and maybe come up with the name of this clock .. alas .. no paperwork. After hours scanning through literally hundreds of clock images .. NONE of them with such a glass shape. I am hoping perhaps this can be identified. None of my reference books has anything like it. Thank you in advance for any help with a name! Zeke DSCN2765.JPG DSCN2769.JPG DSCN2771.JPG PS: The finials are bogus replacements!!

It appears it might be a Kroeber, either the Monogram or the Monogram No. 2, both shown in Tran Duy Ly's Kroeber book, the Monogram from the 1875 catalogue, the Monogram No. 2 from the 1878. With regard to the number 2 is an interesting note from the 1878 Kroeber catalogue, in which is stated that certain models were issued with "cases less carefully made, and only ordinary Yankee movements." These were called No. 2's. Perhaps this is a Monogram No. 2. It is interesting to note that Kroeber had other companies make his movements (possibly including certain of his own specs), and such a statement as he made in the 1878 catalogue appears to be somewhat a slap in the face to the companies who made these "ordinary Yankee movements."

P.S. The catalogue illustrations from the 1875 and 1878 catalogues show only clear glass, but if you have no reason to doubt the originality of the glass, all is well. And yes, different (and nicer) finials are pictured in the catalogue illustrations.

I have totally refurbished the movement .. several years ago. The dial was essentially gone .. the original old paper dial. This is a replacement. The movement, as I indicated, is marked Ingraham. What is hardest to figure out, the case has only one set of holes and this little bell, with the hammer rod sticking under it .. there are six holes in the case and no indication of any repairs to the case. The glass is cut to shape .. not a rectangular glass in a shaped opening. There is a wee crack in it so I left it alone .. cleaned the fifty years of barn muck off with alcohol and let it go at that. To me .. it should be an Ingraham. But I never saw one quite so fancy. And the Kroeber key .. well ... I may never know the whole story .... now to find a Tran Duy Ly Kroeber book .. have a look at the suggestions Steve mentioned. Hey .. thanks fellows .. appreciate your prompt input .. will keep searching .. but I have to give this away soon! Zeke
