I recently received an Ingraham clock. The clock was not running. The clockworks were very dry not a drop of oil anywhere. I did notice a part I have not seen on another clocks. See below.

what is this part called? It isn’t affixed to anything should it be ?
when I first removed the movement it was resting on the crutch which didn’t seem correct.
it does seem to work well now that the piece is no longer on the crutch.
thanks much

That part just keeps the verge saddle from slipping off the pin. It just restos on the end of the pin and should be formed such as to apply enough tension to keep it in place. Don't know if it has a scientific name. Verge retainer will do.

Verge retainer it is. I looked through different books on clock repair and couldn’t find a description of the part anywhere. Thanks much

Also be sure it doesn't touch the verge itself. Just the pin.
