I am kind of new to the whole pocketwatch thing but I am helping out a friend who bought out a bunch of vintage and early civil war era pocket watches.
After doing some research today I found out that this is an Indian Elgin Motorcyle Pocket Watch and it has 17 jewels...the other one we have is 15 jewels.
In your opinion do you think it would be worth any value and if so where would I go about seeing where I could get it appraised?
I am having a really hard time uploading pics to the service so I posted the links..hope that is ok.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Tolly

The answer to this question is ... it is OK, but it's not a good idea.

Many image hosting sites have a reputation for being invasive, which means that they will attempt to download trojans or other forms of active code to the computer of anyone who connects to them. They then capture data from that computer and transmit it to the website. For this reason many people (including myself) will not click those links you provided and therefore will not participate in the thread.

A further problem is that after some time the link will become inactive because either the website disappears or the user (you in this case) unsubscribes to the site. This means that this thread will become useless in the future.

You did manage to post images in your other thread, and it really is best if you persevere and post your photos here. If you have a problem you should discuss it in the forum here called "Message board problems" - you'll get help pretty quickly. I suspect you may be encountering a common problem here which is trying to post oversize images! I believe the maximum permissible size is 500K and the software here has a problem in that if your image is oversize it just ignores it, when obviously it should give a clear error message. If you don't know how to reduce your image size, again go to the "Message board problems" forum.

Finally, since your watch is an Elgin, which is an American watch, I am moving this thread to the American Pocket Watches forum :)

Glad to see the Moderator has moved this to the appropriate area.

Your watch is not an Elgin, it is an Illinois size 18 open faced 17 jewel model 6 grade 69 watch made approximately in the 1910-11 time frame. In its day it was a moderately priced watch. Someone probably added the Indian logo as a decal.

Some years ago there was a channel on late night television that sold various 18 size pocket watches with decals on the dials for various brands. I think many of them had modest 7-jewel movements.
