    Hello All,
Not sure if there are many Illinois Wristwatch fans here at the NAWCC.
Would love to see some from members if you do.
I have a few, and would like to share a very cool all Aluminum one.
    Not many examples survived (3?)
Case and Movement Made from Duraluminum.

NAWCC member, Fred Friedberg's new 5 volume Illinois Book is in pre-production
and it is supposed to be amazing. The true name for this watch is rumored to revealed in the book.

    Dear all.
We should all be most happy to meet the greatest collector of Illinois watches, and equal world expert to Fred Friedberg.

There is nothing on Illinois that these two guys don't know or own.

Welcome Greg.I already ordered Fred's book.
Like all Fred's work, I know it will be the best.
    Thanks for posting.

    Ps to,all.
Illinois had a short life compared to some American manufacturers, that said the made some of the greatest looking Art Deco pieces. Ask Greg to post a few.

    Thanks SO much Adam!
We are all very excited to see Fred's new book, I reserved mine too.
Hopefully Fred will come and say hello here.
I have plenty of Illinois to share and will put them here in this thread for all to enjoy.
Here is a very rare 1929 Illinois Piccadilly with an engraved Bezel. Maybe one or 2
    others in existence like it.

The first watch in the thread with the secometer (rotating seconds) is
really nice, and that Piccadilly is really nice as well.

That is an awesome piece Stan.
Considering that between 1914 and 1918 ILLINOIS ONLY made 600 watches, and I bet 50%+ of those were pocket watches!?!
So maybe only 300 wristwatches and a rare "black" dial

    Very exciting thread
Thanks to all for sharing wristwatches in a community of clocks and pocket watches - I LOVE it

You must be talking about Wrist Watches only because they made a lot more than 600 PW's over that time period
(according to the Pocket watch database).
For example just looking at one 12 size watch they made
    the grade 401 production:

I went to that site you reference and it says this(not trying to fight with you)
    1914 2,600,000
    1918 3,200,000
= 600,000 serial numbers (but I do understand that they didn't use all the serial numbers)

did you mean to say six hundred thousand?

This very rare bezel has a hinge with 2 knobs so the wearer
could pop it open and feel the hands. Experts believe this could have
been made for a blind or sight impared owner.

With radium hands, doubt it would have been made for the blind, #1 it would knock the lume off of the hands and #2 it is radioactive material.

Yes this is true and correct
That said, I have personally seen this watch, and the case is definitely designed and made to be easily opened, not just the unique hinge but the beautifully made and fitted handles (2 off)
This is a properly manufactured case, not some after thought.
Have you ever seen a case like that with even just the hinge?

It is another exciting part of the Horology jigsaw, that we currently don't have fully understand

PS: The hands are not original or relumed

What is interesting is that as we all know back when this was made, folks didn't know about the dangers
of Radium (Radium Girls) So the Radioactivity in the hands wouldn't have been the issue. Adam has held this watch and the two
knobs are deliberate and large enough to feel and open easily. No one can say for sure what the purpose of this
door-like bezel was for so the sight theory makes some sense.
Anyway, thought you all would enjoy seeing it...

Here is an equally interesting Illinois and another one of a kind.
This is a 1931 Beau Series Illinois with a hinge on it.

Agree all your points on 1st example. Its a mystery increased by no adverts OR other examples! Maybe we need to switch Stan from Waltham/Elgin to Illinois! That said Fred has not come up with anything in his recent 5 volume research books on Illinois (plug for Freds magnificent new books)

Watch 2 - You MUST have the "monopoly" on hinged cases LOL.
Big difference here is no handles to open the case top, so very different from 1st example, this case is more standard

Thanks for sharing all these GREAT pieces.

    PS - Folks
Did you all notice on the 1928 Square Cut Corner.
    That
UNUSUALLY, the sub seconds is round (on a square cut case) BUT look at the magnificent center design exactly and correctly following the contours of the case - MAGNIFICENT example

No, I do not think so
    Its a metal dial.
Why? Only a few watches like the "dollar watches" had paper dials

Here is an interesting one you never see.
This is the 1930 Frontenac. What makes this one special is that it is the
only Illinois that came with an integrated bracelet. This was a being marketed as a
"Novelty Watch" and the Wadsworth case featured a Wadsworth bracelet.
The problem with this combo seems that the bracelets were not that strong and
seemed to break off after time. VERY few, perhaps 2-3 are known to exist intact.
    Here is one.
