If the regulator pins are touching in some positions and not in other positions the regulation can be a bit difficult.

You can have situations where a moving the regulator arm towards the slow down position will speed up the movement and vice versa.
There may also be a point where the regulation will make a big jump. This may result in a situation where the watch may keep time in one position and take off in another position.

Unfortunately this may occur at the point where the correct position of the regulator pins is since the watch probably was regulated when the hairspring was damaged hence that is where you still may have a bit of uneven hairspring curvature.

I would go ahead and try it in the movement to see what is going on. You may be lucky and get a good regulation after all........

Good luck.

Good news - I've found a solid gold endstone for my balance! After trying all known parts suppliers, posting in the community, attempting a donor transplant.. I found this odd looking jewel setting installed on the underside of my baseplate. Sure enough, I swapped it out for the composite setting in the balance cock and it fits like a charm. I guess a previous watchmaker mixed them up by accident during reassembly. Onwards.
