    Hi,

I would very much appreciate any help in identifying the MANUFACTURER / AGE of this presumed French made calendar clock. The clock movement has the serial number, "4892", with NO visible manufacturer marking on the rear plate. The calendar movement has the serial number "1058" and has a presumed manufacturer marking on the rear plate of "C.R" inside a horizontal double oval.

The name on the dial is "J. T. MACKAY"; I found a listing for "J. T. Mackay & Son, jewellers" in an 1871-1872 Scottish post office directory, perhaps this was the retailer?

On a full wind the clock ran for 15 days; are there 14 day mainsprings or would it most likely be a 30-day mainspring that needs cleaning?

Thank you for any information that you can provide.

I would agree that the clock is French.

The name MacKay is probably, as you suggest, a retailer, quite possibly the same firm you mention.

A fifteen-day run is quite likely, but I suspect it is probably not a 30-day runner.

The initials C.R (or is it G.R.?) may be those of a finisseur, or finisher, of the movements, or possibly the maker of the calendar movement (?).

All in all, a nice looking clock.

This style of clock was pioneered by Brocot and Delletrez in the mid 1900s. It’s certainly French, but I don’t know who CB is..

Nice French marble clock probably last quarter of 19th C. Afaik it is not uncommon for these pendule de Paris movements to run for 2 weeks, I have a couple that do, whereas 30 day ones are. No idea who CR is but if he was responsible for both you'd have expected the clock movement to also be marked.

    Hi timeless1,

This does look very much like the perpetual calendar invented by Achille Brocot, with its clouds and blue sky. Not that common and quite sought after, especially with a case in good condition like yours. These larger size French round movements often do have a fortnight duration.

    Regards,

    Graham
