Anywhere you can find a population of about 400,000 within about a 20 mile radius, that will do it unless a good clock shop is already in place. Anyway you slice it, it takes about 300 to 500 thousand people to support one full time clock shop. Even then you won't be driving a G-Wagon and smokin big cigars! Willie X

i would surf the various craigslists and look for cities that have the most clocks listed for sale. you will be able to tell which sellers are knowledgeable clock dealers or repair people/shops, but more important you will see where there are more clocks. the more clocks, the more potential business.

If you follow the American Pickers, they love the east coast because that's where the oldest stuff is.

this is why i think i should get more points for my collection, as there are many more clocks on the east coast and far fewer have made their way to the sf bay area. i've done pretty well considering... :)

I live an hour east of Pittsburgh and there are zero knowledgeable clock shops in the area. The few that are around are hacks and charge sky-high prices and it's pretty bad that I know more than them. Here is a good area as you would be fairly close to Pittsburgh, Monroeville, and Greensburg while enjoying a small town pace and mindset. Chris..

Retired people are more likely to enjoy these clocks (older people in general), for that reason I would lean towards larger cities in Florida, Arizona maybe New Mexico. More due diligence from you would be needed before making the final decision.

I would start by assessing the lifestyle that you want and then look for the opportunities within those areas.

Stay away from GB, TC, as few people have proper clocks here

Oha.gif I would have thought that quite a few "proper" clocks are around in the UK, at least I bought a few from there recently, which I deemed quite "proper" :D. Just thinking - among others - of my "Johns" (Grant and Foster) :emoji_heart_eyes:

Sort of, Bernhard, but most "real" clocks are in collections like museums - there aren't the USA ones with individual houses of wall-to-wall clocks.

When I left school in the 1960s to be an apprentice i thought of either going into radio and TV, or clock repair. Seeing that many of the clock repair shops were closing down, I chose the former and was glad that I did. If you look at many towns and cities here I was right.

I would strongly suggest that you look at perhaps Columbia ,S.C. area. There are very few clock repair shops near with the closest about 2 hours away with a six months or longer waiting list. Columbia is a very nice medium city to live in and warm and hot ( sometimes too hot) like CA.
Many retired veterans here with clocks from all over Europe, esp Germany. I am just a hobbyist , not a professional but you might want to check it out. Good luck.
