I saw an ad for a Trend GF clock on my local social media marketplace. Looked like a nice Trend, so I contacted them. Clock stopped running last year, and I could have it for $75.00.
Arrived there, and an elderly couple showed me a beautiful 1980's Trend in a flawless oak case. It was serviced regularly, but stopped last fall. They explained that the person that had serviced it all those years had passed, and the person that took over his business wanted $75.00/hour to service, including travel time. They really loved the clock, but this cost was out of their reach. I removed the hood to start moving it, and immediately noticed the suspension spring had snapped. I reached into my tool kit, and found the correct spring and took 5 minuets to install it, while they thought I was prepping the clock to move it. Gave the pendulum a swing, replaced the hood, and told them it was all set. No charge.
What I wasn't prepared for was the woman to break down in tears that it was running again.
Sometimes this business isn't all just business. It's a good feeling to see a persons face light up when their timepiece comes back to life. Money can't buy that.
    I slept well last night.

    Steve

Not just a good story, a good lesson for all. Sometimes when you don't get paid in money you get paid in ways that are worth so much more. I know of people who would pay a LOT of money for a good nights sleep. Well done!

Which is worth more, a few dollars profit or the lady's reaction when you fixed her clock?
