• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

I BOUGHT THIS LONG CASE CLOCK TODAY HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN ONE LIKE IT?

I JUST PICKED THIS UP TODAY. IN MY LIMITED EXPERIENCE I'VE NEVER SEEN A MOVEMENT LIKE THIS OR A DIAL THAT'S BEVELED. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

Hello Chris, you have a Black Forest Shield (or Lackschilduhr ) wall clock that has been repurposed into Grandfather or longcase clock. This thread has a lot of useful information in it. Click Here. This repurposing was popular amongst German immigrants into the United States at one time, so that might be something worth your while investigating.

Any idea of the date? If it follows the English style at all I'd guess 1820-30?
It was repurposed in England then brought to the US around 20 years ago. I know it was in a rope twine factory in Bridport Dorsett England in the late 1800's.

Our Lackschildhur is about this time - we've had it for many years and it never fails.

BTW Dorset (not Dorsett) is a county on the channel coast and Bridport a small town.

Do you have the weights and the pendulum? This is a 1-day movement with a long pendulum, so the weights should be around 750 g.

On those I've seen and owned, the going weight is more than the striking one, and they've been cast iron.
