• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Good day!
I have taken in this wayward clock and would appreciate any info you guys could provide- particularly age/history, tips/tricks/pitfalls of the movement, etc
The striking weight has dropped down into the case for some reason, so I will be checking for a bad click and bent arbors. The suspension spring is broken, too. Beyond that, I haven't really gotten too deeply into it yet.
Thanks!

The 'HWN' trademark was registered in 1919 by Hausuhrenfabrik Winterhalder KG .

The 'Hawina' trademark (and the Hawina brand, so to speak) were registered in 1925 by H. Winterhalder A.G.

Since the Hawina trademark is on your movement, and since Winterhalder went out of business in 1929. your clock was made between 1925 and 1929.

Regards.

Nice looking clock. The dial looks a little bare bones, but I like the carvings. Concerning the weight drop, there may be stretched links in the chain or the stop fell off. Look over each and every link in the chain.

Jeff, I have serviced several HWN movements and found them to be very well made movements. If yours is the one with the huge weight on the chime train, check the pivots in the chime train carefully. I remember having to bush a few. The pivots are usually not bad at all. Just fine polishing. They are a pleasure to work on.

Indeed this is a much higher quality movement than I have had the good fortune to work on previously. I am intimidated by the adjustable pallets on the anchor and the internal (between-the-plates) chime wheels and levers. Thankfully the eccentric bushings seem unmolested.
The weights are roughly 9 lbs for the chime and strike trains, and about 7 for the time train.

Do not even think about adjusting those pallets. If the bushings are snug, they will be fine. Ask me how I know. I only did it once.

Jeff, I agree with Will 100% in that you will enjoy working on this well made movement. I have the same movement in one of my GF clocks that I restored and it is well built and extremely reliable and accurate. Enjoy.
