Howard Miller Ship's Clock

I'd like to get more information on my Howard Miller clock. It came off a boat, but I don't know the age. The face is about 6" in diameter. There is a slow fast adjustment on the face that fits using a flathead screwdriver. On the back of the clock there is a small cover just for the movement which also has a fast and slow slide adjustment but it does not appear to touch anything on the movement.

The sliding cover is just a dust cover, it is not supposed to touch anything on the movement. You slide it to one side, adjust with a screw driver as you said, then slide it back.

From the goop coming out of the mainspring barrel cap, I would say that your clock needs a good take apart service. This looks like an inexpensive Urgos (?) movement. Howard miller buys and rebrands lots of clocks, then they are marketed as novelty or decorative clocks.

Thanks for your quick responses. I have some better pictures, sorry about the previous ones. What looks like goop are scratches(I'm not sure why there would be scratches on the opening over the mainspring). Movement is in good or very good condition, VERY small lettering but it says the following, HOWARD MILLER CLOCK CO/??ZEELAND MICH??/MADE IN GERMANY/FOUR(4)JEWELS/UNADJUSTED. I assume if the movement says Howard Miller, it is not an Urgos? Also, the glass is really heavy and beveled, there are really worn waterproof gaskets on the glass bevel and on the back for mounting. I've never seen a Howard Miller clock face like this with the 24hr numbers located outside the 12 hour numbers on the dial, so I'm trying to get more info on when this clock might have been made and maybe what kind of boats they generally went on, sold to public or maybe direct to the boat manufactures? Also, when oiling a clock like this, do you put anything on the balance? I know more about oiling pendulum clocks, but not with a balance spring. The fast-slow hole on the back cover does match up with anything but it is close to the balance wheel, maybe it is a generic cover with the option for other clocks. Thanks for your help.

Howard Miller never made any movements in Zeeland but imported German movements for their clocks. They recently bought the German company Keinninger, which still makes movements in Germany.
