How do you tell if a watch is a fake copy?

This watch is labelled as a Tag Heuer and just needed a new battery. But the owner asked if I thought it was a real Tag or some sort of fake copy. Is there an easy way to find out? Or does anyone see something that gives a clue one way or the other?

Its both 100% genuine and original

I don't see any reason to think that is a fake/copy. It looks like a nice one. That caliber of ETA (955.114?) seems to be a common choice for TAG's quartz watches. I just serviced one for a buddy a few months back. Cheers.

If a Fake is not real and a Copy is not real then wouldn't a Fake Copy be real ?

Surely the owner knows where the watch was purchased. Did you ask the customer if he stole it?

he bought it at some sort of a swap meet from a private party and did not know if it was real - he just liked it and took a chance that it just needed a battery as he was told by the seller

The TAG is one that the girls in the shop often ask me, is it a real one? Though one who has been in the shop since the early 80's asked me yesterday, "the customer wants to know whether this Wedgewood clock is real because it says it is made in China" Of course I did say that Wedgewood never made clocks so clearly the name and the lack of trademarks should point out that it isn't a Wedgewood clock.
