• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Greetings all,

As most are aware, a while back I was given a running Accutron by a generous registered member. I'm now at the point of disassembling the movement but I'm in a bit of a quandary before I dive in in earnest.

The 218 series service manual I have shows Bulova using what was then the latest model of test kit, a model 600. And apparently the 600's came with different leads. One of the sets was for the 214 Accutron, the other for the 218's. But because the 700 kit has a different lead design, I'm unsure as to how to hook it up to the movement/movement holder. My manual shows a different lead that should be attached under the battery clamp at the pivot/insulator side. But the 700 doesn't have a flat lead that would go under the strap. Instead it has two small toothless alligator clips colored yellow and blue. In the same three wire group is the male plug for the movement holder.

My question is, how do I hook up the clip leads from the 700 to get my readings from the watch to check and adjust? Many thanks. Cheers.

My 700 tester also has a yellow wire plug that goes into the movement holder. I hook the blue color alligator lead to the battery clamp. It sits under the movement holder but it gets the job done. Make sure the movement is in the setting position before removing the hands, watch the position of the pawls when taking it apart and don't touch the index wheel with tweezers.

Thank you, gentlemen. I appreciate the instructions and tips. Cheers.

Oh, and since I sort of have your attention, do either of you have any input on possible differences between the male plug in the 600 kit versus the 700 kit? The input jack on one of my 218 holders is too sloppy to hold the plug. I see that the 600's has what may be a larger male plug, and I was thinking that perhaps there is a difference between the holders with the two kits. I am thinking that one of the holders is defective. I just didn't know it when I received it in the mail. Many thank again.

I don't recall noticing a difference in those plugs on the two meters. I've had both (well I guess I still have them both, the older one is in storage ..... somewhere). I think one of your sockets is just bad. Maybe the spring fell out of it.

Thanks, Chris. That's what I was afraid of. I guess the movement holder wasn't a great purchase. Well, at least the tester came with an intact 218 holder. Thanks again for all of your help. Cheers.

I have a 700 and the plug fits the movement holder just fine. I think you have a bad receptacle on the movement holder.
