• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

I want to build a hooded wall clock but use some parts from a worn out grandfather clock. I have an emperor grandfather that uses the 451-050 92cm movement. That movement doesn't chime nor strike worth crap. I want to get a 241-030 55cm movement. What I wanted to know is if I could use the chains and the time and strike weights off the bad movement for the new movement? Everything on the grandfather clock I could use except the pendulum and chime rod assembly and chime weight. Will my thinking work?

The new movement will come with its own chains, if it is indeed new.

I apologize Harold Bain but I forgot to mention this is a used movement off eBay. It's only 10 years old and is being sold as is with only the hand nut. It looks in perfect shape but is dirty. I just want to know if I can use the 2 lighter matching weights from the grandfather clock for this movement. They are both hermle movements.

OK. The 241 movement with chains uses two weights, 4.42 pounds each. The 451 with chains uses two weights at 4.7 pounds each and one at 6.6 pounds (chime weight). Can't find a reference to the chain sizes though. Could be the same.
