I recently purchased this Swiss made 7 jewel Henry Sandoz Melwin pocket watch. The case has wadsworth rambler written on it. Can anyone tell me anything about this watch approximate age, if it has a potetntial value(I'm not looking for a number), etc. If is it a good find? It needs a little work the winding stem needs to be replaced.

Melwin was a trademark of Schwob Freres, presumably being a combination of two of their company names - Melrose Watch Co and Windsor Watch Co (both names of towns in Massachusetts). Henri Sandoz founded Tavannes Watch Co in 1891 and sold the company to Schwob some time in the early 1900s. Schwob also had a major importing company in the USA.

So I assume your watch was an import to the USA, cased in the USA, and I would date your watch to early 20th century, maybe as late as 1920s. I would describe it as ordinary, and not especially collectible.

There's good news in narrowing down the date. In the late 1890s, the Wadsworth Watch Case Co. Rambler grade cases were only warranted for five years. According to page 123 of the book Trade Marks Of The Jewelry And Kindred Trades, Second Edition, Jewelers' Circular Publishing Co., NY, 1904 (found online by Askbart), the use of the Rambler trade mark was discontinued by 1904.

However, the bad news is that the movement may have been recased into an older case. I can see a screw mark just to the right of the case screw appearing in the movement picture.
