I have a J Kaiser. GMBH W-12 and with a 70 stamped on the left side. it will run on its side but will not run upright. This is my first time working on this type works all help appreciated.

I should have a look at the balance wheel pivots and the cups that they run in. The pivots may need grinding and the cups may be worn. Have you tried adjusting the cup/pivot depth [with the large grey adjuster in photo #1]?

The photos are not very sharp but, from what little I can make out, it looks to me that there may be some bushings needed too, as well as a lot of cleaning.

Typically when a balance wheel will run one way but not the other, the cups will be worn. You'll have to remove them, reshape the inner cones and resharpen the pivot points on the balance. Not an easy job, but doable. The cups should then be just tight enough to allow freedom of movement.

Still have an assortment of cups somewhere in my stuff. Used to be able to buy them.
I've got some too. Can't remember where I got them but someone must still supply them, I suppose.
