Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

I acquired this nice modern case and need help finding a dial. It had no movement or dial with it. I do have the weights and I also have a spare 1171-850-114 movement that I placed inside for all to see. I don’t know if it will work in this case or not.
the opening from the seat board to the top of the arch is 10 inches. The width is 14 1/4 inches. There are no screw holes around the dial anywhere so it must have been held, like most , by two seatboard screws and by four post clamps.
The seatboard is recessed where the movement mounts and the 1171 doesn’t seem to fit the recessed opening.
My questions are:
1. What movement do I need if my 1171 won’t work?
2. What dial will fit that opening?
3. What company made it and what model is it?
4. WHY did I take this in without knowing the answer to these questions?

That's a good looking movement; maybe add hands and some dry-transfer numbers on the glass and leave it at that... :)

You basically have an empty clock case. I suggest going to emperorclock.com and finding a complete kit that will work.
Mark, with the shape and size of the dial opening, do you have an idea what type dial will fit? It does not look like a moon dial style will work to me. 10 inches high. And… do you sell dials?

That's an odd looking case there. I'm pretty sure it's homemade and may have never had a movement ... So, your on your own. :) Willie X

You could make a face plate out of 3/8" ply as it looks like there is room behind the uprights and the seat board.
Measure the distance from the hands arbor to the top of the arch deduct about an 1.1/2 and find a round dial for a chain pull movement as it will have no winding holes in it, fit the dial to the movement and secure it from under the seat board.
The whole dial and movement will come out of the front as I can see another way to access the movement.

Yep. It’s different. The guy I got it from only had the weights. Look like Hermle/Urgos/Kieninger style weights. However, there is no evidence of a movement ever being there. It all looks factory made. Every joint is perfect. No name or numbers on the case.

Jimmy, that may work. I have a good dial and a 451-050 Hermle, but this is a well-made, 7ft tall case. It’s wide. I think that small chain pull movement and dial would look totally wrong. I would like to find that model on line so I can see what the original may look like but I’ve searched and can’t find it on Howard Miller, Ridgeway, or any other companies’ websites. Thanks for the idea.

It’s a very nice case. It would seem a shame to not give it a good movement and dial.

A round dial may fit but I get the feeling it was outlined for one of those partially arched dials, like this one:

Thanks, J.A. That looks like it would work if I could find one. That case and dial look a bit older than my case. It’s a modern case. It even has plastic glass retainers. The 10 inches high is the main problem. The dial would extend below the seatboard so I have a little more than 10 to work with. The little recess in the seatboard where the movement sets is puzzling. There is no evidence of a movement ever being there. Other ideas appreciated. :???:
