Hello and good day!yi
There is a very enjoyable French horological forum that I recently stumbled upon while searching for information on a French brand.

For the most part, it translates just fine with the Google gizmo.

One thing I do not understand is the translation of a "rooster watch". At first it seemed to be verge... But not so sure now.

Can someone help me with "Le coq" which translated to "rooster" and how it pertains to a watch?

Thank you very much!

It is probably a "cock" as in balance cock. Context makes a lot of difference and many French Horological terms evolve so one translation may be wrong for another period

Hi Dr. Jon, thank you for the reply.

I had thought of that, although it doesn't quite fit in context. It may just be a matter of how things are said in a different way, though.

Thanks again.

Indeed, and not having the sentence to get context, it likely refers to the watch balance cock (coq in French).

Thank you both for helping an ignorant American.

After re-reading, that is exactly what it is.

I thought it refered to the verge, but it was the richly decorated balance cock, actually.
